Kapalua's PGA Tour event won't be be the PGA Tour's season opener

The tour's season covers two calendar years, starting in 2013, with events currently in the "Fall Series" at the conclusion of the growing season instead starting the 2013-14 season. After roughly 6 weeks of no competition, the summer season will likely resume while using winners-only Hyundai Tournament of Champions.

"I would anticipate we start the schedule early October, and we will run well into November. We'll apt to be dark from prior to or at Thanksgiving through the remaining year, probably a six-week break, the  like. Then we'll return in Hawaii at Hyundai," tour commissioner Tim Finchem said Tuesday during a teleconference transcribed on pgatour.com.

According to the tour, all winners discount golf clubs from the calendar year 2013 will probably be qualified to apply for the 2014 Maui event, meaning champions from two season will be included.

Rolfing said in the Kapalua event remaining at the outset of January: "We anticipate it'll."

Steve Stricker won the Tournament of Champions this January. Six eligible players then ranked within  the world's best would not play.

"I think the largest problem for the Hyundai Tournament of Champions really hasn't changed - still it remains, 'What creatively will be implemented to attract the top players to experience in this event?' " said former tournament organizer Mark Rolfing, a Kapalua resident and television golf analyst. "There is a fairly steady decline that is certainly not only a trend. I would not really think this changes things a good deal apart from it's not at all the start of a state PGA Tour season anymore, which certainly isn't  going to help the situ-ation. It will magnify the truth that the eligibility has to be restructured."

The schedule change also ends nearly Fifty years of experiencing the tour's qualifying tournament function as a method of getting a card. The developmental Nationwide Tour will instead be utilized for the key path to the PGA Tour. Cards can be awarded at the three-tournament series blending Nationwide and PGA tour players.

The board approved the idea, that is brought up for a lot of months.

The tour would like to result in the Nationwide Tour more appealing as it looks for a new title sponsor - this can be a insurance company's final year of sponsorship. Finchem said the tour is speaking with several companies, though "close most likely are not the correct word."

Starting the state season in October - shortly after the FedEx Cup season ends - allows the tour to offer more charm towards the tournaments now area of the Fall Series. When they are left Titleist 910 D3 Driver unattended like other tournaments, they likely would not renew their sponsorship, which would eliminate some $25 million in prize money.

Following the FedEx Cup regular season leads to August 2013, the tour will need the superior 75 players from the Nationwide Tour money list, combined with the players who finished No. 126 through 200 around the PGA Tour money list, and also have them play three tournaments. The superior 50 will get PGA Tour cards for one more season.

The past several years, the very best 25 players through the Nationwide Tour received tour cards. Another 25 cards roughly were given out at Q-school, which in turn produced a couple of heartwarming stories of the long shot who achieved his desire reaching the tour.

Finchem said his staff has discussed seeding the gamers in such a way that this top 25 through the Nationwide Tour are assured of being on the list of top 50 as soon as the three events.
